Fun with a Purpose: Helping Californians Prepare for Earthquakes
This is the eighth year that California Earthquake Authority (CEA) has teamed up with the American Red Cross to present the Get Prepared, California! Auction. During that time, the auction has raised over $1.2 million for disaster preparedness and relief efforts right here in California. That’s enough money to provide 100,000 hot meals, 200,000 blankets, or 400,000 “comfort kits” filled with toiletries and other personal items that people typically need following a natural disaster.
Spreading the Word about Earthquake Preparedness
Working with the American Red Cross is a natural fit for CEA, whose mission is to prepare Californians for the next damaging earthquake, and ensure they can recover afterwards. CEA does this by educating the public about earthquake safety and earthquake preparedness, encouraging seismic retrofitting of vulnerable houses, and offering affordable earthquake insurance.
