Glenn Pomeroy

Chief Executive Officer

Chief Executive Officer Glenn Pomeroy joined the California Earthquake Authority in 2008. During his tenure as CEO, the CEA has grown by more than 330,000 policies by offering new, flexible insurance options and by increasing public outreach. During this time CEA has also developed an innovative residential mitigation program that has retrofitted more than 20,000 homes to date.

Glenn was born and raised in North Dakota. While attending law school, Glenn was elected to the first of three terms in the North Dakota House of Representatives. After serving as a county prosecutor and Assistant Attorney General, Glenn was appointed State Securities Commissioner by North Dakota Governor George Sinner. He was later elected to two terms as North Dakota Insurance Commissioner, and was selected by his peers from around the country to serve as President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

In 2001 Glenn went to work for the reinsurance industry, becoming head of Government and Regulatory Affairs for Employers Reinsurance Corporation (GE Insurance Solutions), and served in that same capacity when the company was acquired by Swiss Re. Glenn was actively involved in the federal legislative process that resulted in the passage of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) in the months following 9/11.

In 2008 the CEA Governing Board was conducting a CEO search, looking for someone with a deep background in government, insurance regulation or reinsurance. Glenn’s unique background offered extensive experience in all three areas. He and his family happily relocated to Sacramento, California in order to take this position.

One of his favorite activities outside of work is spending time with his family in the Great Outdoors. Glenn’s favorite hobby is boxing, and his annual personal goal is to climb Mt. Shasta every spring.
