CEA participated in "California's Day of Preparedness" in historic Old Sacramento on Aug. 27, a free annual event hosted by the Governor's Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) and sponsored by PG&E.
The event had the theme "Surviving the Wild West" and featured food, music, demonstrations and interactive exhibits. More than 40 partner organizations—fire, police and sheriff's departments; federal, state and local agencies; utility companies; not-for-profits and others concerned with community preparedness—provided informational booths and exhibits. CEA shared information about earthquake insurance and about staying safe in earthquake country.
Visitors were invited to watch demonstrations from K9 units, a swift water rescue team, a chemical decontamination unit, a helicopter fire attack team and even Boy Scouts demonstrating rope toss rescues. Attendees also learned what to do when utility wires fall, experienced what a magnitude-9.5 earthquake could feel like, and learned how to prepare a perfect emergency preparedness kit.
